several contemporary pieces, three of which were written for ex luce, make up a part of this program. dominique vellard has dedicated to the ensemble his suite espańola, inspired by songs from spanish traditional music. baptiste romain wrote the accompaniment of an old american song collected by alan lomax. gail w. jennings has composed a piece entitled three celtic poems for violin and voice. to this piece ex luce worked with the composer adding flamenco rhythms to the final melody. other pieces are taken from composers who were inspired by traditional music such as bartok, vaughan williams, kurtag, kodaly and berio.
the music of binchois and busnois (xv century), give the group the opportunity to bring out surprising sonorities through their unusual instrumentation and timbre and in turn contrast them with the more contemporary works on the program.
