dominique vellard - tenor and oud
he started singing as a choirboy at notre-dame de versailles (france). after his musical studies at the conservatory he concentrated on monteverdi's work for three years. in 1979 he founded the ensemble gilles binchois, devoting most of his time to the medieval and renaissance repertoire. he has researched the traditional music of various countries seeking to enrich his interpretations of early music. he has made more then 40 recordings and since 1982 he teaches singing and chamber music at the medieval department in the schola cantorum in basel (switzerland). he has been the artistic director of the festival les rencontres internationales de musique médiévale du thoronet (france) since 1991 and les meslanges de primtemps (dijon) since 2003. www.gillesbinchois.com
baptiste romain - fiddle and bagpipe
was born in rueil-malmaison, france, where he began his musical studies in violin and composition at the conservatoire national de région of rueil. from there he went on to specialize in medieval and renaissance music, studying medieval fiddle, ancient bagpipes, and voice. after studies with marco horvat, jasmin martorell and lucie jolivet at the centre de musique médiévale in paris, he moved to switzerland where he currently studies at the schola cantorum basiliensis, with randall cook, dominique vellard and crawford young. he also studies chamber music with pierre hamon at the conservatoire national supérieur in lyon. he collaborates regularly with many musicians in various ensembles including gilles binchois (dominique vellard), la morra (mixaj gondko), leones (marc lewon) and les jardins de courtoisie (anne quentin).
